What is interesting about the form of this text? Consider the genre of this text and anything interesting about its codes and conventions.

There are a number of different reasons why this piece of text could be called interesting. One of these is that it is a cross genre text, the reason of this being that it appeals to a number of different groups and doesn’t just stick to one genre. The use of only one genre could have resulted in it not being as popular and with time it could get boring and stop appealing to people. The opening sequence of the television show features the colours blue and silver quite a lot; both could be called very ‘rich’ colours. The use of all the flashing lights also suggest that these characters are in the spotlight, the flashes could mean that people are taking photographs of them and that they are celebrities that are worth watching.

Who is the audience for this show and how does the show appeal to its audience?

The show, ‘The Only Way Is Essex’ is the type of show that wouldn’t just appeal to a certain age group or gender as it has a variety of types of characters, from the model, to the guy who owns a nightclub and has a lot of money. The age group that I would say it appeals to the most would be teenagers over the age of 16, going up to young adults. Girls would enjoy this program because of the characters of the women; they all dress in expensive clothes, have nice jewellery and have a lot of money. This would probably make the young girls watching the show aspire to be like them. The show would not only appeal to women but also to boys and men not only because of the expensive cars and clothes but because of the women that they might find interesting, as many boys may agree with the character of Mark that there are a lot of ‘fit birds’ around to watch. . The majority of the women in this show are blonde, have a lot of money and have a whole load of fake tan on their skin, this emphasizes the fact that these girls are very ‘perfect’ seeming and maybe even ‘doll-like’ it is obvious that they take a lot of care of themselves and this may influence the viewers of the show to try and be like them. The men are also like this; they go to the gym and are shown to be very ‘wanted’ by all the women around them.
